JMARE WELCOMES NEW RESIDENT
BLACK SAPHIRE (“SOPHIE”) - NSH MARE
In April 2006 JMARE welcomed Black Saphire (we call her“Sophie”).
The photos show her on the day she arrived at JMARE’s stable in Illinois and as a show horse. She is a registered National Show Horse who was the mount for a young girl until her mother passed away. Then Sophie was sold and she ended up in a cattle lot. She endured a bad ordeal there until rescued by Jennifer Sullivan of Massachusetts. Jenn bought her and spent years bringing her back to being her old self. Jenn raised a foal from her who she is keeping as her riding horse, but the time had come to find just the right place for Sophie, who has lost most of the sight in one eye. Due to her past experiences before Jenn found her, Sophie does not award her trust easily. It was important to Jenn that Sophie have a placement of security, understanding, and good care, to live a graceful retirement. We are pleased Jenn chose JMARE for Sophie. Like all our residents, Sophie is very special. She has settled in happily.
