Retirement Locations
JMARE's first location is at Top-T Morgan Farm in Peru, Illinois. Jann
Currie of Top-T Morgan Farm has been breeding, showing, and caring for
Morgans for nearly 50 years. Before that there had been many ponies to
start her equine experience. Top-T has always been a family operation
with the horses cherished as close family members.
The Curries' first Morgan mares were purchased at the Lippitt Dispersal
sale. They were Lippitt Glenna (Lippitt Ethan Don x June of Glenmere)
and Mahalia (Easter Twilight x Natick Moro Independence). Both of those
mares were tremendous brood mares for them and Jann still has a son,
granddaughter and great granddaughter of Mahalia. The great
granddaughter also has Lippitt Glenna in her pedigree. Over the years
they've been a small breeding farm who succeeded in breeding several
World, Reserve World and National Champions. They did not limit
themselves to any one Morgan line. Instead they found that there were
many lines in Morgans that produce excellent individuals.
Currently Top-T is not actively breeding Morgans. Several years ago,
their focus moved to saving and caring for the elder members of the
equine community with emphasis on their breed, the Morgan. Jann's dream
for and commitment to the Old Ones, was the genesis for JMARE, organized
with the concerted efforts and contributions of like-minded people who
comprise JMARE's members and Board of Trustees. JMARE is a 501c3
organization. Its home stable was established at Top-T's facility in
2002. Jann herself has contributed much work and resources to the
operation. Fittingly, among JMARE's residents are Top-T Mr. Legacee
("Bones"), 28-years-young son of Mahalia with strong Lippitt breeding,
and a Reserve World Champion in Hunt Seat, who romps JMARE's elysian
fields at Top-T. Another JMARE resident is Top-T Glory Bea who suffers
from Cushings, thyroid, arthritis and navicular disease. She was
suffering so much in 2001 that they nearly had her put down, but by
putting her on medication and some supplements, she is a vital 26 yrs
old this year and enjoying her days with JMARE. Other JMARE horses in
residence are World Champion Valiant Tony, who is a remarkable example
of the enduring equine spirit. Tony suffered a broken leg several years
ago. The repair to his leg left it straight and unbendable, but Tony
has adapted and not slowed down. Beaming Beauty, now 28 (foaled in 1977),
also graces JMARE's fields with elegance and spirit. Angel and Tilly
are two cherished JMARE residents who exemplify JMARE's mission. JMARE
has given Angel and Tilly permanent sanctuary from a near-death
situation. Rescued by an animal protection group in Wisconsin, Angel
and Tilly came to JMARE in dire straits in 2004 - starved, rough coated,
frightened and depressed. Today they are fit and healthy and romping
happily with JMARE's other residents.
JMARE's residents thrive under Jann Currie's expert hands-on care and
oversight of the Board of Trustees. As JMARE grows with its mission,
additional locations will be established in the U.S.under MARE's
guidelines for senior equine management and high standards of care.
